Pumpkin Carving

My kids have been bugging me and bugging me ever since we got home last weekend from the pumpkin patch to carve their pumpkins. Well I put them off as long as I thought possible, and we finally got it done yesterday. Kayla and Adrianna woke up early yesterday morning (as if it were Christmas) knocking on our door asking if they could wake up the other girls so they could carve pumpkins. Finally when everyone was up and we had ate breakfast we dug into the pumpkins.

Now we have carved pumpkins before so it should have been no surprise that it would be an ooey gooey mess, but nonetheless some of them acted like it was the grosses thing ever! Shelbi in particular was the worst. She really could not stand to reach in there and grab out that gook. And the other girls who were not grossed out by it (Alyssa and Maria) did not help the situation either as they tried to gross her out even more by calling it intestines. Kayla and Adrianna thought it was gross, but I think they were playing it up for the camera. In fact Kayla's exact words were "It's gross, but fun!"

Well after two hours of cleaning out and carving pumpkins we had a huge mess! We used some stencils that came with a pumpkin carving kit, and lets just say time consuming! And not only was it time consuming, but Maria's pumpkin broke :( I was really disappointed! Anyway Shelbi's pumpkin turned out ok, ans Alyssa still has yet to complete hers....I'm glad we only have to do this once a year!

Poor Shelbi! I really don't like reaching in a dragging out the gook either. I'm sure it was a blast though, even with all of the graphic reminders.

I carved a pumpkin with the kids on Saturday. It was really funny. Out of all my kids who do you think helped me pull the gunk out? It was Ruby! Christian and Anthony touched it once and then wouldn't help anymore! They enjoyed watching though!

I remember doing all of that as kids, very fun. We would dry the seeds and salt them too. I would eat them, until I was sick. There was something earthy about those seeds, that made them intriguing to eat. Great pics.

I hate pumpkin carving too! Its such a mess! However, the boys love it all. We should try to do it today since it is pretty enough to do it in the backyard on some newspaper. Then we can just spray it off. We'll see how the day goes! I am looking forward to seeing the girls' masterpieces on Wednesday. It will be fun to get together too!

I plan on getting to our pumpkins next week. My children are so young that it's easier to have them use markers on their pumpkins. Then we carve 1 family pumpkin. Then if I'm inclined to I use the pumpkin and seeds later.

This is Ryan's FAVORITE part of Halloween! He gets the really hard to do carving kits and makes things I couldn't make. He loves it. Me and the kids do too, but not as much as him!

I'm not even doing pumpkins this year. We (as in I) decided we (as in I) would rather not have the huge mess....ha ha
