Sewing 101

This year as part of our homeschooling the girls had expressed interest in learning how to sew a dress. So the other day they had a great sale going at the fabric store on patterns and fabric. The girls enjoyed glancing at the pattern books, and learning about different types of fabric. They have each chose a different pattern and fabric and have begin to cut them out. I would like to try to work on them about once or twice a week. I hope they turn out great...but we will see. I'll try to keep you posted.

This is the pattern and fabric Alyssa chose.

And this is the pattern and fabric Shelbi chose.

Wow! I'm sure they'll do okay. They'll have to wear them to Church first thing! I'll try to remember to copy that Sis. Elra CD and give it to you next time I see you (hopefully this Thursday). We'll see, we'll see. I hope your CD player gets fixed. Ours has had trouble for over a year now, but it still works, just acts like the CD's have scratches when they don't really. It does a lot of skipping. Well, hopefully I'll be able to see you soon.

Yeah ,that is going to be so much fun.Elise has sewn some dresses for her self and really liked doing it.She has made a couple just by laying out one that she has and using it as the pattern.I think she gets that from her Grandma Betha. She had a dress she liked ,so she pretty much made all her dresses off of it just changed the style a bit. Well have un.

So much work, but worth it. I think the patterns, and material they chose will flatter them. Good choices. :)

You are going to have so much fun! Giving our girls the gift of sewing is so important. It gives them so much freedom to think about what they want to create and the know how to do it! Us girls... we need to do things in our lives where we have something immediate to show for it. So much cooking (and then it's eaten!) and cleaning (and then it gets dirty again!)can get a girl down. But to make something pretty and to be creative can really lift our spirits!

I like Shelbi's better. But they are both nice choices. Can't wait to read more.

Could you teach my girls too? Why not? Sigh.... Now I have guilt. I guess we need to finish their quilts and make some skirts or dresses. Sigh....

Sounds very exciting! Even if the dresses don't turn out perfect, the experience will be worth it.

I did a lot of sewing when I was around 12. I made some dresses I was very proud of. Good luck to them. It is well worth the effort.

How exciting! Once they learn how to sew for themselves I can send out my measurements and patterns and they can 'practice' sewing on dresses for me! Haha I'm just offering out of the goodness of my heart lol.

What a wonderful experience for them. I've made a few dresses for myself before. Now I just don't seem to have the time. I hope the dresses turn out great! I can't wait to see the finished products.
