Yesterday was Alyssa's first day of public high school. Although I have loved homeschooling her the last few years, and spending time with her at home, I really felt like she was just becoming to comfortable with her surroundings and not applying herself to her schoolwork. I think she was beginning to feel bored with school, and life. She really is my social butterfly and she was starting to feel caged in.
We found a unique kind of High School. It is very small. They only allow no more than 20 students per grade level, so no more that 80 students for the whole high school. It is called a "Big Picture School" and what they do is try to focus on what the child is interested in and incorporates their learning around that. They are able to take on internships two day a week as part of their learning experience. And really get more one on one time with their teacher and mentors. It sounds like a great way to learn about a lot of different things, and a fun approach to school. So far she really seems to be enjoying it. She said everyone has been really nice and welcoming, and that's what any mother would hope for for her child in a new school.
It is sometimes is hard to make choices about what is best for our children. Life is adventurous sometimes, and constantly full of changes. So begins another journey....

I hope this works out for you.
Sounds great! I hope it all works well. I am anxious to see you!
It sounds like a good transition for a homeschooled child. I hope it works out for her.
That sounds like a good school to me and one I would have liked to go to!
That sounds really nice! I'm sure Alyssa will enjoy it, too. I know what you mean about her being a social butterfly! I'm sure you're allowing God to lead you in how you should raise your children. They'll surely turn out great!
Perfect timing, Sis. Marisela! You made your comment on my "Tired" post, while I was creating a new one. I don't think shopping would make me as happy as you. I'm not really a shopper. However, I am sure the results would make me happy!
Im so glad that she was warmly welcomed. That is a very big deal for us moms. I hope that the experience is extremely positive for her. I would love to dabble in it as well for Levi. Life is ever changing and ever the journey raising these many kids!
I hope she enjoys it :) I think she probably will, since there's not a lot of kids.
That sounds like an ideal public school!
Thinkin' about you, hope you are good?
Hi! I was just wondering what the name of Alyssa's school is? I'm always looking for different ways of schooling. We have homeschooled our girls since the beginning until last year. They are now attending a charter school down here, where they only attend school 1 day per week and do school at home the other 4. I would like to check out their website if they have one. My email address is robdixie@hotmail.com. Thanks so much!! Sis. Dixie (Eugene)
(P.S. I'm using Katie's username so don't reply to it! :) Just use my email, thanks!)
